LATER. Returns from Karangahake Ore.
Con'sidkrablb satisfaction wa3 expressed in town yesterday when the news arrived that tho returns from the smelting furnace of the as*ay of quartz from the Rise G M. Company bad amounted to £14 8s per ton This is more assuring, as the re hirns from the Crown G M. Company had *onnewhat disappointed those interest. With regard to th's matter there are various rumours afloat that certain offer* have heen made to purchase the qua»tz from that, claim. It appears, however, that *uch is not the ea««». the directors having no other thm that of the La Monte Com nan v. 8 14* per ton. This they Hid not feel inclined to accept, ntid var'ons other tests have been made, which resulted as fo lows : - " November 24, 18S5. - Ore terted from Crown Com pan v : Gold to the. ton, 2^7. 15dwts. at £3 18i per oz. £10 14s fir? : silver, 13 z* n^wrs, at. 4* per oz, £2 14« 2 * per ton of 2,9.401 bs Total value per ton of oro i 3 8*8d G. Esq., Queen street :(r: (r T have assayed the naroel of stone submitted to mo by yon, and find that ifc corresponds to a yield of : Oo'd 2oz. 12dwt,s. 6^ra. ; silver, 24^z. lldwts agrs , to the ton. - Henry J. Carson." The a«pay of Mr S Harris, aosayer for the I.a Monte Company, haa already been published in detail. It was: Gold, loz lSdwts 15grs per ton j sflver, lOozs lldwt20gra. It will be seen by the above that the offer of the La Monte Company may be considered a fair ono. It would per Hape have been more satisfactory had the whole parcel of stone been treated at the furnace before the returns had been made, as the results from different aasays vary considerably. The price offered is jnoerior to the average yield by which the Sunny Corner Company has piid substantial dividends so that if the average can be maintained the shareholder? in the Crown need not fear for the results. Waite and narty, who own a claim in the Moanatairi district hare expressed themselves thoroughly satisfied with the value eriven for a 5-ton parcel recently sold hy them, for which they stated that they received fully 13 >z*. of ordinary Thames gold more than the battery proems would have returned. The directors of the smelting furnare propose commencing the erection of a roasting plant- a« soon ap practicable in order to reduce mineralised ores.
