CROWN MINE, KARANGAHAKE. Auckland, Last night. A telegram was received by the Directors of the Crown mine to-day from tho assaycrs of the La Monte Smelting Company Thames, who have recently been engaged in testing quartz from this mm >, offering £8 16s per ton for tho ore; as this includes cost of smelting £3 per ton^ and carriage to Thames "38s per, ton the directors are dissatisfied with the offer, believing that the ore is worth more monoy, and for the purpose of giving n reason for the faith that is in them, the chairman of the directorate Air Adam Porter, has telegraphed to the mine manager instructing him to send five tons to an ordinary crushing battery. It is a somewhat remarkable coincidence that tho amount now offered fur Crown ore is about the same as what was offered for that from the Ivanhoe (Karangahake) mine; both tests were made on the same lines, and this fact goes to show that the quartz in both these mines is of much' the sam<' averago quality. It is stated that the tests made by the Ln Monte assayern is not a fair one, as the ore treated was not a well selected parcel.
