THE MINES.

New Find. — The reef continues have a healthy appearance, showing a fair amount of gold in breaking ont, and is shaping at the battery fully as well as last month. In the different workings the men are employed much as when last reported. Galena. — 5 tons from the Galena | reef and 5 tons from No. 1 leader wore I despatched by steamer to the Thames on Monday last for disposal to the New Zealand Smelting Company. A trial parcel of about 15 trucks, broken out from No. 2 leider, is this week being treated at the battery. After this parcel has been put through a trial parcel of about ]0 tons from No. 1 leader will be similarly dealt with. The hands employed in the mine are at present all employed driving on No. 1 leader. fcjn.vifiu King. — The men engaged in this cinim are still breaking out quartz to send to the Thames furnace, the dirt it is believed will prove payable. Pkismieu. — Uu'ler Mr H. H. Adams' supervision four iihn are now working in this mine (Mr Oreo. Read, To Aroha West in charge) breaking out quartz from the junction of Nos. L and 2 reefs for treatment at t!ie battery. It is intended to start crushing next week, with 5 stampers, and .should the result be satisfactory that number of stampers will probably be kept constantly employed. Lone Hand. — The cross-cut is in a distance of 80ft, and jquartz is now showing in the face, and i9 believed to be the reef which the cross cut is being driven for. Next week's operations will probably prove the valu« of the reef. Colonist. — The stuff coming from Jeffrey and party (contractor's) stopes is of a good payable quality, likewise the quartz being broken out from the stopes in the low level by Rooerts and party (contractors). Canadian. — The drive being put in by the Company on the Colonist reef has greatly improved during the past few days, and shows a little gold. Waioronoomai. — Five tons of what is believed to be very rich lead ore is now bagged ready for transmission to Thames. Five tons from the Virgini-i City reef is also bagged and the additional five tons (to complete the parcel Of 15 tons which the company have unuoimmjii o»j uiaposj or to the New Z*ealand Smelting Jo.) is now being broken out, and will probably be all finished by to-night.
