Sydney, Sopt 24.-— An amendment moved by Mr Burns to the Address-in-reply censuring the Government for not calling Parliament together at an earlier date, was rejected last night by a majority of 51 to IS. The Cabinet has decided to join New Zealand in subsidising the- San Francisco mail service, the amount paid by Now South Wales to be £7,000 per annum. A case of small-pox has made its appearance at Randwick. The whole of the members of the family in which it occurred have been placed in quarantine. Sydney September 25. Eight persons in all have been placed in quarantine in connection with the outbreak of small-pox at Randwick. It is believed that the disease was contracted originally by the mother, who some weeks ago arrived by the R.M.S. Zealandia from Auckland. Sydney, Sep. 28.— The Health Officer reports that two of the Randwick smallpox patients are improving, but that the third is in a very dangerous condition at present. Sydney, Sept 28, — Further cases of small-pox have been reported to the sanitary authorities. In one instance the disease attacked a seaman on board the s.s. Gunga, which vessel lately returned here from Melbourne. The eource of the disease is unaccounted for. The other caee has made its appearance in Druilt-strces. Tho patient and the occupants of the house have been removed to the north quarantine station, Sydney, Soptembor 29. The Cabinet have agreed to contribute £10,000 per annum towards the subsidy required for the mail service via San Francisco on condition that New South Wales is entitled to share in the sum roceived for postages The emall-pox patients in quarantine remain in about tho same condition. So far there is no sign of any fresh outbreak. Melbourne, Sept 24,— The steam Navigation Board recommends the Government to despatch a steamer to the locality whore the Gulf of Carpentaria was recently wrecked, in order to search for a sunken rock which it is believed she struck. Sydney, Sept 30. — A grand picnic was given yesterday in honour of Mr Dion Boucicault, the distinguished actor and gifted playwright. It was attended by over 400 of the leading residents, and was a great success. Melbourne, Sept. 24.— The trial of Seymour Robinson, for tho robbery of the Hotham branch of tho Federal Bank, concluded yesterday, when the prisoner was sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment. Melbourne, Sept. 25. — The Legislative Assembly last night, the sum placed on the estimatss for payments, was voted by 23 to 21. Melboubne, Sept. 29. — In consequence of the outbreak of Bmallpox in Sydney, the Victorian sanitary authorities are adopting precautionary measures to preveut the introduction of the disease into this colony. Melbourne, Soptember 30.— Mr Service has introduced a Federal Adopting Bill into the Legislative Assembly, Brisbane, Sept. 25.— 1n the House of Assembly last night rejected by a majority of one vote, the clause in the new License Act, prohibiting the employment of barmaids. Adelaide, Sept 28, —The British India Steam Navigation Company have concluded arrangements for establishing a regular line of steamers between Adelaide and Calcutta, proceeding via Torres Straits. The service is expected to commence shortly, Adelaide, Sept 28, — The South Australian Government has increased the reward offered for the arrest of Woods, the absconding accountant of the Bankruptcy Court, to £1,000.
