THE BALDWINS.

Pbofessok and Mrs Baldwin gave the first of two entertainments at Te Aroha in the Public Hall on Tuesday evening, 15th inst. There was a good attendance, apil the audience showed their appreciation of the entertainment \>y frequent and hearty applause. The first trick put forward was that of fche magic hand, follow ei by the pillory trick, the rope tying feat as performe i by the Davenport Brothers, the wine and wate«* from the s<v ue jug trick, etc. etc. The events of the evening, however, were the thought rea ling by the Professor an! cfairvo/aney by Mrs Baldwin. Tho Professor's exhibition tests were a wonderful success. With regard to Mrs Baldwin's eUii voyun^y, it is truly marvello.i*, in fact bewildering. Mrs Baldwin whilst in a trance, or mesmerised stati, answered a grea*. number of questions, many of wuich had a local interest. Tiie-i 1 questions were in the first place thought of or written dovyn by various iu»muers of the audience, who were not called upon vo acknowledge having fixed upon any subject until Mrs Baldwin had told the audience in the first place the replies, and then the questions asked. July, Trenton, and Vanguard were named as likely horses to win the Melbourne Cap. On Wednesday evening the programme was, in many respects, quite different from that su bunted on the evening previous ; and the hall was w* 11 filled. The entertainment is certainly one of the best, of its kind, and far superior to anything of a like character ever before given in New Zealand. The Professor and Mrs Baldwin purpose remaining some weeks at Te Aroha to avail of the Hot Baths, and will probably give au entertainment at Waiorongomai before leaving ; should they do so they may rely upon having a full house.
