QUARTERLY LICENSING MEETING. Te Aroha District.
The quarterly meeting of the above was heM in the Court House, Te Aroha, on Saturday last at noon. Present :Mtssrs J, B SmitU (chairman), W. F. Hunt, G. Lipsey, J, Gibbons, and J. Munro. The minutes of the previous meeting 1 were read and confirmed. Mr W. H liitcheson, holder of a temporary transfer from W. Quinlan to himself of the licensed premises known as the Eolin Hood and Little John Hotel, applied to have same confirmed, and also to have the nsme of the hotel changed to llitcheson's Family Holel. The Police report on the house was satisfactory, and Ritohesou laid before Commissioners letters of recommend. iturn irom Sydney, where he was p/onri<»for <>f a licensed hotel before coming to New Zealand. The applicant stated he was about t enlarge and improve the premises by adding a new dining room, and several [ additional bed-rooms, etc., etc. Transfer confirmed, and permission to change the name of the house as requested was | also granted. The matter of the British Hotel led to considerable discussion. At the annual meeting when the question of the renewel of license came up, it was promised on behalf of Messrs Brown, Campbell and Co., the proprietors, that large additions would be made, and the hotel greatly improved, and that the work would be commenced within three months and completed within six months from that date, which was duly recorded in the minutes. The three months having just expired, the Bench wished to, know why the agreement had not been carried out; and at their request Mr Crump, C. E., who, on the previous occassion, appeared on behalf of the proprietors, was sent for. Mr Crump informed the Bench that he vas now en gaged in preparing the plans and speo - cations, and submitted a rough sketc 1 of the work it was contemplated to carry out, and from which it would appear the premises will be greatly elnarged and improved, and include the addition of a second story to the old building. Mr Crump stated he had instructions to at once proceed with the work, »nd tenders would be called for with all possible dcs-
patch. Resolved that the time allowed for commencing operations be exl ended by three weeks, , the improvements to accord with sketch plan submitted. This was ail the business.
