THE MINES.
New Find — Stoping on the run of gold is now in full swing in the low level in No. 1 reef, and a good deal of gold is showing through the dirt. Driv ing* south on the same reef is also in progress, and the reef here is a nice kindly body of quartz in which some very fair gold is to be seen. Driving north from the winze in No. 1 reef has just been started. In driving the Arizona level north on reef, a part of the reef made away in the footwall, the winze sunk from Arizona level only carrying down the hanging wall portion, and hands have now been put on to cut down the hanging wall portion in the winze, through which some very nice gold is showing. Stoping is still being proceeded with on No. 1 reef above Arizona level, and fair crushing dirt is coming to hand therefrom. Good crashing dirt is also sti'.l being obtained from the surface of No. 1 reef. No. 2 reef : Stoping is here in progress above No. 1 level, and some good stone is being broken out. From the present prospects of the mine generally better grade dirt may been looked for from the future workings in this mine. Woik with the hand rock borers was resumed on Thursday last.
