The Maoris Before the R.M. Hamilton, August 11.
The Maori obstructionists were brought up at the Police Court to-day, charged with feloniously damaging property, on the Rotorua railway. Mr Macgregor, Hay for Mr Fallon, and the Railway Company applied for a remand til .Friday. Mr Northcroft demurred, but afterwards consented. Before , opening the case the magistrate suggested a settlement as the prisoners evidently did not act maliciously, but to maintain . supposed rights. -Mr .Hay said the was willing to, do anything in reason j ease was, however, one of felony., TMv Northcroft said such cases had,been withdrawn. Prisoners were bailed out by Major Jackson and--Mr Fraser, in sureties ,of £100 for each. .
Amicable Settlement.—The Natives . Feasted. The Rotorua railway obstruction case has been amicably settled. .The natives agree to pay £50 for the damage done. Mr James Stewart gave them a dinner at Barton's Hotel to-day.
