New Yokk, June 22.— The "Herald's" Rome special of June 21st says :—lnformation fromltalian military sourcesattheßed Sea has just reached the Italian Government that Messedamlia Bey, the former Governor of Upper Egypt, has written to the Italian commander there that he recently had been a Syrian who had passed three months at the residence of the Mahdi after the fall of Khartoum. He says the Mahdi has Gordon in secret keeping, having discovered him severely wounded, but not dead, and that Gordon has recovered. The story is credited at Massowah, and forms the subject of an official dispatch.
