Sydney, July 11. — A procession, numbering fully 5,000, proceeded to Government House to-day, and presented a petition to His Excellency, signed by over 20,000 persons, praying for the commutation of the capital sentence passed upon the prisoner Frank Johns, condemned to death for the murder of a fellow prisoner in Parramatta Gaol. A sculling match between Harrington and Nelson took place to-day, and resulted in an easy victory for Harrington. Sydney, July 13.— The Board of Inquiry appointed to investigate the circumstances attending the wreck of the A.S.N. Co.'s s.s. Gahors has decided to cite the captain and mate of the vessel to show cause why their certificates should not be cancelled or suspended. The condemned man, Frank Johns, one of the Moonlight gang of bushrangers, who was lately convicted of stabbing a fellowprisoner in gaol, has been ordered to execution, His Excellency declining to grant a commutation of his sentence, notwithstanding the popular agitation in favour of a reprieve. Melbourne, July 14.— The manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Com pany of New Zealand reports of the local market aB lollows : — Wheat, shipping, from 4s Id j barley, malting, slow of sale, 4tf to 4s 6d : oats, New Zealand feed, steady, but not in active demand, 2s lid to 3s ; oats, milling, fair demand, 3s Id; oats, under hand, 2s Id to 2s 3d.
