An Irish Bishop on "Mixed Marriages."

Tiie Homan Catholic Bishop of Osgory has this week issued an extraordinary pastoral referring to the increasing number of marriages between Catholics and Protestants. The Bishop speaks of these marriages as "unholy alliances," which the Catholic hates and detests, the contracting parties bringing on themselves the maledictions of heaven In order to put a stop to thiB growing evil, the Bishop directs that certain regulations shall be enforced in his diocese. First, Catholics who go to a Protestant clergyman to be married shall be declared guilty of a grievous sin, and both they and Catholics assisting as witnesses shall not be absolved except by the Bishop. In order more effectually to deter people from entering into what the Bishop terms " these detestable marriages," the penalty of excommunication is attached to both contracting parties and witnesses. Finally, the Bishop directs that the parish priests shall read out from the altar the names of Catholics whose intended marriage with Protestants has been legally notified.
