FATAL ACCIDENT. Unfortunate Result of a Juvenile Football Match
Footballers during the proeent season have so far had a singular- immunity ftom sei ious accidents, bub we have now unfortunately to chronicle the fatal termination of an accident sustained by a son of Captain McGillivray in a football contest at North Shore last Wednesday. The lad's name was Harold George McGiilivray, and he was about and 3 months old. Whilst playing /football, he received serious injuries in the groin, which confined him indoors. Immediately Dr. Parkinson was sent for, and as the lad did not improve, he held a consultation with Dr. Lawson on Saturday last. The case appeared to be of a very serious character, and Captain MeGillivray was requested to have the lad removed to the Hospital so that some* surgical operation might be per formed. Ho succeeded in making thia arrangement, and speaks highly of the care and attention displayed by Dr. Bond. Master McGillivray- was conveyed to the Hospital on Sunday, and was immediately attended by Dr. Bond and one of the visiting staff. -The lad was put under chloroform, and the necessary operation was performed. He continued to sink, however, and on Monday night his injuries terminated fatally. The cause of death was strangu iated hernia. '<< •
