Wmllington, June 24. Mr McAlihter, Mr Toles private secretary, is an exact type of a fine genoroushearted hasty young Irishman. It appears hat Mr Mcklister hearing that a priest at Wairnrapa had aspersed the character of his sister, a Mrß Redmond, he at once obtained leave, and took train for Mastorton, On intorvi wing "his reverence " as to what he had been saying figainst the character of his sister, the priest (Father Tracy) i-eplied, 11 Your sister has no character." McAlister naturally lost his temper and gave tho priest a tongue lashing. Some friend 3 of the priest secured the enraged private secre* tary. who was handed over to the village bumble and illegally incarcerated. The matter was, however, subsequently settled, and the following advertisement in this evening's "Post" and "Press" explains itself: — " Masterton, June 22nd, 1885. To Mr J P McAlister, Wellington. Sir, — I beg to retract all the statements which I have made against the character of your sister, Mrs Redmond, and declaro the same to be unfounded, and to express to you my regret for having taken the steps which I took on Saturday last, 20th inst., causing you to be given into custody. — Yours truly (Signed) Patrick Tracy, Catholic priest."
