Moody's Evangelism Pays.
I asked a clergyman of my acquaintance, the Rev. Mr Sarsfield, how such men as Moody thrive. " There are no such men as Moody," he replied. " He has imitators, but no equals, and will have no successors. Moody's evangelism pays him well, althoughhe hasneithersalary nor collections. He refuses no private donation, however, and has been generously treated in that respect. Evangelism is a remunerative calling, and Moody stands at the head of evangelists. He has a fine house and income, although only a few years ago he did not have a dollar, and was without education or learning. 1 No other church services are heldatthehour when he holdsforth. He has the united support of all the pastors, and the effect of advertising him from all their pulpits. 1 I am not a believer in the lasting qualities of his work. After the delirium of revivals there is a relaxation that leaves churches demoralised and weakened. Rarely are they permanently benefited."—" New York Tribune. >? .
