Battery. — Returns for * fortnight ending May 14th :— New Find : Battery, 68oz ; tailing?, 12ozs ; do, Boz sdwts ; silver, 2ozs 10 dwts. Total, 90oz 15dwts retorted gold. Total returns for five weeks ending May 14th : — New Find, 331 trucks crushed for 187oz retorted gold. From old tailings, 43ozs. Total, 2300z retorted gold. Premier :25 tracks, 16ozs. Erom old tailings, 23ozs. Total, 89oz retorted gold. Canadian : 65 trucks, 28oz retorte>l May Queen j 8 trucks, SOozs lldwts retorted gold. Diamond Gully j54 trucks, 25ozs retorted gold.

THE MINES. New Find — The reef in the low level north, has considerably improved ! in appearance this week, and now much resembles the leef from which payable dirt i was obtained in the level above. The stopes from No. 1 reef, above the Arizona level and north from the rise, still continues to look well. The stuff now beinu crushed from these stopes is shaping w» 1 . and promises to give a good payabl' return. Retorting of this weeks' crush - ing will not take place till Monday next, through the final monthly cleaning nit taking place later than usual, and the battery having been stepped owing to sorn i slight repairs being nee Ifal, both in tli • battery »nd on the tramway, wherein general crushing did not re-conmieutv i till Tuesday last. i Canadian. — Work on this mine ha.« been discontinued, owing to the return from battery proving unsatisfactory.
