THE ST. LOUIS MURDER.

Walter H. Lennox Maxwell, alUs C. D Auguier, was charged at the Police Court on May 11, with the wilful murder of Charles E. Garreler at St. Louis, U.S.A. Mr H WilliaraoQ applied to have the namo on the charge sheet altered from '• Gareler" to " Parreler." He detailed the cir cumstaoees of the arrest of prisoner The telegrams that would be produced by Mr Gamble gave the name of the murdered man as Garreler, but amongst the clothing in prisoner's possession were some articles marked "CO.P," Mr oamble informed him that Parreler was I a common name in the Stares, and that it vaa quite possible th.it a mistake in the in itial letter ha>i been made in transmission. Guffs, &c, were toundin the portmanteau, and in the big trunk were a pair of drawers white shirt, and under-shirt. Each ef these was marked with the initials C.A.P., carefully worked on the material. One peculiarity was that these were the only articles in the trunk which bore these initials, and another etrange *,hin£ about them was that they were cut with some instrument such aa scissors, aif they had been taken oft a b dy, The next mail steamer expected here left 'Frisco last baturday, and arrives here on June 1. He would therefore ask for a remand until the day after her arrival. Possibly an officer had come from St. Louie by her to take charge of the prisoner, but if not he would ask for a further remand until the next steamer came. The prisoner was remanded.
