TAKAPUNA LICENSING ELECTION.

Tile inhabitants of our marine suburb were in a great state of excitement on Saturday, May 8, over the election of a licensing committee to represent the district of Takapuna. Eight candidates ha'l been nominated. Fivo represented the "temperance ticket," and three the licensed victuallers Only live could be elected, and there was consequently a struggle between the two parties. At J)evonport, vehicles of al most every description were brought into use to convey voters to the polling booth, and with such success that almost every available vote was polled, the total reg.htered being 298. The number polled last year was only 150. At Takapuna and Morthcoto thore was also a keen contest. The result was a complete victory for the temperance party, their fifth man having two votes moro than the highest recorded for an opposition candidate. At the previous election tho temperunco party put in four out of five, and now they have elected the whole committee of five, viz., Messrs Bartley, Williamson, Edson, Brown, and McCallum. Tho following is the result of the voting a 51 recorded by Mr Thomas Seaman, Keturning Officer :
