MURDEROUS AFFRAY AT UNKNOWN Christchurch, April 27.
About 11.15 p.m. on Saturday, John Green, carpenter of the Barque Colleen, was speaking to the cook of the Invercargill on Cladbtone Pier. Green asked the other man what ship he belonged to, and on the cook replying the Invercargill, he begun to abuso the owners of the ship. Leslie, an apprentico of the Inveivargill, then cm me up, and a quarrel with Green ensued on the subject This led to a fight, and Leslie getting the better of the first named, Green produced a pocket knife and stabbed Leslie with it three or feur times, one of the cuts it is feaied penetrating one of his lungs. Dr. McDonald, who wus called in, can give no opinion yet as to the probable result of the case, as the patient is in a very precarious condition. Green was arrebtei by the police.
