THE TAURANGA AND ROTORUA RAILWAY. Auckland, April 18.

Mb William MoCandlish, who arrived by the Coptic yesterday, comes here in connection with the proposed railway between Tauranga and the Hot Lakes, to carry out which it is intended to float a company. The route is to be from Tauranga to Rotorua, connecting with the Thames V alley and Rotorua Railway, and the formation of a complete line from Auckland to Tauranga, with a view of ultimately joining with the North Island " central." Mr McCandlish informs us that matters in this connection are in abeyance, but will be brought before the public when they are ripe. No enterprise of this kind, he says, has beon floated in England for the last eighteen months owing, to the tightness of the money market, and the prospect of a war with Russia will not promote a favourable change. Indications from poople in London who are acquainted with these things, howevor, satisfy Mr McCandlish that thoro will be no difficulty in launching tho enterprise, which is much appreciated by many, and he believes that when things mond financially there will be no trouble in making satisfactory arrangements. In the meantime, Mr McCandlish intends to get more complete information about the affair than ho has hithorto beon able to obtain, because the people here do not know what the people of England really require before they will enter upon such affairs. The proposals to be submitted to tho public will depend upon the condition of the money market at tho time they are to be brought forward. Mr McCandlish leaves for Tauranga on Monday in connection with tho proposed railway.
