SCHOOL COMMITTEES. Te Aroha.
The usual monthly meeting of the Te Aroha School Committee -was held on Monday evening last, , Present— Messrs Gibbons (chairman), Smithe (sec), Ilott, Dobsnn* and Hethrington. Minutes of last meeting were read «and confirmed. The following circular was received :—: — Auckland, March 11, 1885. Gentlemen,- -In accordance with a Resolution of thu Executive Committee oi the Gospel Temperance Missicn, we have respectfully to request thafc you will have the goodness to resolve that Dr Kichardson^s Temperauce Lesson Book be taught in the school* or schools, under your charge* At* lecant meeting, the Education Board for the Provincial Distoict oif Auckland passed a resolution to the effect tl« t, wherever Dr Richardson's book was taught un ~er the authority of any School Committee, it should be examined on by their -Inspectors } it is therefore desirable that, ■on adopting it, you slouM inform, by letter, the Chief Inspector that you have t3one so, in order that he, or some of his assistants, may be prepa ed with a set of questions for examination thereon, vrlicn they examine on the Standards in the school. Should the " Temperance Lesson 3*cx k" not be in stock wh°'< ■or lered by yon from any of our leading booksellers, they may be able to procure j it for you from Australia in a ftw weeks.— We have the honour to he, vottr obedient Servants, Saml. To the Chairman o r Te Aroha School Committee, One member i simr opposed to the adoption of Dr Richardsorv's lesson tjook, and two members being absent, it •was resolved that the question be deferred till next meeti.ig of the Committee. The irregular attendance of several children was brought under notice, specailly Thos. Hector, 18; and Osborne Smith , 37 attendnnces respectively, for past quarter out of a possible 80. The Secretary was instructed to write to the Board of Education for a supply i <jf the printed forms of " Notices to Parents or Guardians,'* under the compulsory clauses of the Education 1 Act. Several accounts were passed for payment.
WAIOfcONQOMAt, A fuither communication was recently received by the Waiorongomai School ■Committee from the Board o! Education, giving it as their decision from the facts placed before them that Mr P. Ferguson was the legally 'elected chairman, and they should recognise him as such.
Waihou At the recent meeting of tne Waihou Scliool Committee, it was decided to adopt Dr Richardson's Temperance .Lesson Boole ; to advise the children of its usefulness, and to ask parents to purchase them ; and that the teacher, Mr Hawkins, carry out the said decision in the way he th nks most suitable.
