THE MINES.
Nkw Find. — Work in this mine is proceeding much the same as reported last week. As will be seen by the' returns published this issue, a considerable improvement in the quality of the dirt latterly coming to hand is apparent. Driving is now is progress at the north end of No. 2 reef, which still has a healthy appearance. Canadian. — Work in this mine is about to be carried on more energetically again. A contract has been let for breaking out 100 trucks of quartz (from that portion of the mine known \ as WillUmVs leader), at 12s 6*l \ per truck. Crushing will probably have I re-commenced before our next issue. : and it is to be hoped with the re duction in battery charges steady work will now be carried on. Phcenix & Inverness. — 10 tons of quartz from the Phoenix, taken from that portion of the ' reef whence two former crushings treated at the local battery were obtained, and yielded from l£ to 2oz per truck, and about half a ton -from, tw,o, reefs of the Inverness, were this week despatched to Auckland for transhipment to London, for the purpose of having the same treated by one of th' 1 new processes which have recently been so much heard of— probably we believe, by the dry mercurial system. ! WeraHIKO. — The sinking a wins?? on; the ol 1 r\m of gold in this mine is stil in progress. Diamond Gully. — THs mine js .still crushing, 'and will .probavly finish early next week.
