The desirability of securing a display of Auckland fruit at the approaching New Zealand Industrial Exhibition appears to have recommended itself to the promoters of the Exhibition. Mr J. B. Gilfillan yesterday received the following telegram from Wellington on the subject :■*••• Have wired Secretary of Horticultural Society asking him to secure apples ov other fruits from their present show 1 in order to test their keeping qualities for the Exhibition here in August. A show of sub-tropical fruits would be of great interest, and an item Auckland would be epecially represented in, would it not? — Ciias. Callw." It will thufi be seen that the recent Gardeners' Horticultural Show has had the effect of drawing attention from other parts of the colony to the success which has attended the cultivation of fruit this season. Upon receipt of the telegram, Mr Gilfillan saw Mr Smallfield, Secretary of the Show, and arranged that he should interview the recent exhibitors, and see what could be done in the way of having a collection of apples and also of various sub-tropical fruits sent to the Exhibition. Mr Gilfillan is also negotiating with Mr H. Hayr with the object of having a good exhibit of honey and apiarian appliances sent from.
