RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT. Before H. Kenrick, Esq., R.M. Tuesday, March 3, 1885. Police Case.

Police v. Geo. Holden. Defendant in this 1 case* was charged by Sergeant Emerson with being in possession of certain native game, viz., 2 piteous, on Feb. 18th, being the close season. Defendant pleaded guilty to the charge, and stated he shot the birds himself', being in ignorance that be was thereby breaking the law. It having been stated this was the first case of the kind brought up at this Court, His Worship inflicted the nominal penalty of Is without costs, hat wished it to be most clearly understood that in any future cases brought before him for a like offence, the plea of ignorance would not be entertained, but a most substantial penalty would certainly be enforced. Civil Casks. Wells and Sontter v. Joseph Read No appearance of defendant. Mr Cuff, solicitor, for plaintiffs Claim £15 Os 6d for goods supplied. Jolin McL. Murray, bookkeeper for plaintiffs, proved t,he debt. Judgment for amount with costs of Court £1 3s, and solicitor's cost £1 Is. McLeod v. Green. No appearance of either party. Case struck out Wells and Soutter v. Henry Gordon, claim 4>6 18s 8d for goods supplied. Mt Cuff, solicitor, for plaintiffs. Judgment for amount, with costs of Court 10s, and solicitor's costs 10s 6d. Warren y. Winstanley. .No appearance of either party, case, struck out. Thos. Robinson v. Thos. Jansen, claim £li Is for labour done. Mr Cuff, for defendant, who did net appear. Plaintiff stated the work was in connection with the. building of a house for defendant Frequently applied to him for the money. Account had never been disputed by defendant, who 1 ad promised ro pay, bat now latterly he had told plaintiff his phu-e vras secured to Messrs Wells and Soutter, and he could do his best, hence the present proceedings. •I u igment for amount with costs £1 12s.
