THE NEW BATTERY.
Some information as to the progress of the work in connection with the erection ot the new batieiy, will prove of interest to the majority of oar readers. Mi 1 McKay has been entrusted with the wltole erecting of the plant, by tne contrac^orgj |dessi f s and jFiiino. Jfii' st o£ all wt» may state that tiie water- races are now almost completed, and a very few days will be all that is needed ere the water ctfntbe Cnraeld. dnWTKe building will assdine the .form, of the .letter 14,' anil -be of tfie" toUowin^.dihenkionsf:^

The machinery at present will consist of the following,: A' stone-breaker, through which all quarts; must first pass,, and from whioh nothing above 1^ inch in size t can, escape. Pi'om thence the quartz is forced through a large pan, insule which two large iron" rollers, weighing about two-a-half c-ton c -tons v each, revolve. This process reduces the qnnrtz so that it will pass thrcngh holes, and it is conveyed direct from this pan, to the grinding pans. , .These are eight in nnniber, and capable of reduce ing 32 tons per day. After being re'duceU'^; the • pans, the : quartz s next treated by what are terrued " settlers," of which there will be four, and it is by means of *hese thKt- the -quicksilver is' separated from the qunrtsc. In add'tion i to the above, one working pan (as it is termed) will be employed for the purpose of, treating the residue that comes away from the " settlers;" This will give a, general idea of the machinery which will -be employed at the starting of the battery. We .need scarcely add the plant is being so constructed thafr additions can e«sily and quickly be made.
