VOLUNTEERS FOR THE SOUDAN. Up to the present 630 names of persons desirous of proceeding to the Soudan luvve been sent to Bennett. These include G7 from Thames, and 70 from the Kaipiinr district. Intelligence received to-day of an extensive and destructive tire now raging at Tuiruu, in the forest*, which are bein-,' worked by the Union Sash and Door Co. ROTORUA RAILWAY The annual meeting of tae Rotorua Railway Cu. was held this afternoon. The annual report said the direetois fOlf 01 bear on the present occasion entering into any history of the past year with regard to the railway, inasmuch as negotiations are pending which may result in arrangement with Government whereby, not only the completion of the first section, but also the construction of the second section will be secured. Through railway communication between Auckland and the Hot Lakes district will thus be established, without the noctssity for making further calls on shareholders. The engineer's report stated thut nil the plant and material required have been delivered. Re formation — Lichlield contract it? satisfactorily finished. Oxford contract, \ now -about nine months over timn, and w j yet unable to certify to its completion. The sleeper contract is being rapidly executed ; about two thirds been delivered. The report and balance-sheet were adopted The retiring directors, Messrs Dddy, Hal combe, and Howard, were re-elected. Mr Waymouth was appointed auditor.
