DYNAMITE IN LONDON. Further Particulars of the London Bridge Explosion.
London, December 18th.— Researches into the explosion on London bridge causes a sensation. The disclosures show that the outrage was planned with an amount of coolness, determination, and foresight hitherto uncredited to terrorists. Everything proree the participators in the plot must have remained beneath the bridge a quarter of an hour, despite the swiftness of the current The work was prosecuted with immense difficulty, but the deep shadows were sufficient to prevent detection, it is believed that a chemical fuse ignited the explosive*, giving the conspiiators time to land and catch the tidal train for Paris A keepei of a tavern at which three suspected men took refreshments describes the tallesi of them, who was evidently the leader, as a free and ta-<y, intelligent man He paid the bill at tho tavern butobjected to taking a drink on board the boat it is noteworthy that the tide of Saturday was lower than it had been for months past or will be until spring ; also that the hour selected was. when it was lowest, proving that the plot was carefu.ly laid. It is proposed to ustsubmarioe electric light to enable the diver to examine the extent of damage to the bridge. Granville and Gladstone are provided with extra guaids since the explosion. London, December 18ch. — Gol. Magindie, Chief of tho Department of Explosives, says, in his report about the explosion at London Bridge, that the dynamite was probably suspended to the grating over the sewer-hole at the baso of the pier. Thtforce of the explo4on was much greater than was -.uppof-ed at first. Several stove.were badly shifted and joints opened. A curb atone at the bottom of the sewer was pulverised, and a diver found fissures in the pier extending six feet into the bed of the river, into some of which he could thrust his hand to the wrist. The damage to the bridge, however, is merely superficial, and the strength of the structure remaine unaffected.
