A STORM BREWING.
At the first meeting of the Waiorongomai School Committee, held directly after the annual election, the business of electing a chairman (as reported in our last issue) resulted in Mr Smardon being appointed to that office. It appeal s. however, that the appointment by no means gave universal satisfaction, an I efforts will be made to unseat that gentleman from his exalted position. Wo uuderstan I Mr Smardon was proposed by Mr Adams, and seconded by Mr Beesoii, whilst Mr Montague proposed, and Mr Gallagher seconded, that Mr 1\ Ferguson be constituted chairman. When it came to deciding the question byvote,Mr Ferguson (-suddenly exhibitirg an amount ot modesty that startled even his own supporters, and nearest an 1 dearest Friends, to such an extent that they were completely nonplussed for the rest of the evening), considering it wouli I be an indelicate thing to vote for himself, declined l o do so, Ko such scruples troubled Mr Snwdon however, or if so he quickly smothered them, ami the voting stood thus : — For Mr Sm:i>--don : Messrs Adams, Beeson, and Smardon Fjr Mr Ferguson : Messrs Montague, Munro, and Gallagher. JUo suit, ties. Mr Beeson was now nppoinfed temporary chairman on tli<* suggestion of Mr Adams. Mr Beeson gave his casting vote in favour of Mr bmardon, who was declared duly elected. It was 'prjposed by Mr Ferguson, and seconded by Mr Adams, that the secretary and chairman be authorised to sign all cheques. A vote of thanks was proposed by Mr Bee.son, and seconded by Mr Gallagher, to the outgoing com mittee. The first Monday in each uioutn at 7.30 p.m. was appointed the day for holding the monthly meeting of committee.
