THE AROHA HOT SPRINGS. Coming to the Front.
The following is from the Auckland Herald of Tuesday last : — Tue tourist traffic (via Cambridge) is anything but us brisk as it used to be, nor is it by this route, bnt by Tauranga also that the falling off has taken place, as the visitors' list at a!l the hotels show. This is attributable to the expenses heaped upon visitors not merely in extravageut hotel enarges, but iv the exactions of tiie natives for visitiug patticuiar spots, and lor their services .is guides, boar men, tfcc. Mucm of the traffic has been diverted to the Te Aroil « springs, where the hotcs 1 keepers ha. *c kept to reasonable ordmaiy notcl charges, and where the cost of admission to tii<» baths is trifling. Tourists Iroui Jm.ope and the colonie-, to wnom a few jjoun Is more or less is little or no object, will ok' course be attracted to tue lakes by the scenery and the wonders of the gey>ei>, springs, etc., but to our own people, merely seeking the springs for curative purposes, the less expe i&ive resort to the Te Aroaa baths is preferred. In both places the cures effected, especially iv rheumatic affections and skin diseases, is something marvellous.
