Three Men Buried Alive. Wellington, Jan. 20.
An accident occuircd about four o clock yesterday afternoon on the WellingtonManawatu Railway Company's Works at Pukerau, about 24 miles from town, which resulted in three men being buried underneath a fall of earth in a tunnel. It appears that twelve men were working in a tunnel in Mr Brown's contract, when the timber suddenly gave way, and a large quantity of earth fell. Nine managed to escape, and the other three were entombed. Their nam s are : Peter George, Henry Lloyd, and Matthew Panzadetti. The voice of the laat- named could be heard, and he stated that he could hear one of the other unfortunate men groaning, but was unable to tell which. Latjsk. The relief gang at Pukerua have uncovered Panuazetti sufficiently to allow of nourishment being givon him. It it not expected that the other men will be rescued alive.
