TAUPO NEWS. Taupo, January 5.
Sheep for Tauranga. Three thousand five hundred fat wethers arrived here to-day from Haw ke's Bay. Mr John Dougherty is in charge. They are for Mr Jonathan Brown, of Tauranga. The weather has been very bad for sheep driving, the roads much cut up, notwithstanding which the sheep are in excellent condition, and it is the largest number that has ever been driven in one mob through here.
The A.C. Road Party. Owing to the late bad weather, the Commissary Department have not any rations here as yet for the working party of Armed Constabulary, and in consequence they are still delayed in Taupo from making a move towards the construction of the TaupoWanganui Road. i
Alarming Series of Earthquakes. Yesterday and to-day, forty distinct shocks of earthquake were felt here. One this morning was very severe. Tongariro was clear at the time of the shock, but no eruption could be seen from the volcano.
Movements of Armed Constabulary. Sixty-two men and officers of the Armed Constabulary have lelt this place by boat for Tekano. The rest of the working party that are to construct the Taupo- Wanganui Road will leave this week. Seven men and one sergeant are to remain to take charge of this statian
