THE HINEMOA MYSTERY.
Wellington, January 7. Public opinion seems to have decided i hat the Hineinoa, with the Colonial Secretary, is to cruise in the Pacific and make wholesale annexations of tho New Hebiides and Samoan groups, and any other islands it may be deemed necessary to a»>nex. I have reason for stating that this course has not yet been decided upon by tho Government, though a decision one way or tho other Mill probably be come to after the ariival in Auckland of Hie Excellency 1 * PiivnteSt-cie-tary with papers for Sir Julius Vogcl. Tho movements of the iriinmnoa will now be watched with interest. Should she return to Wellington, it will be an admission that the Government have abandoned their plans for annexation ; but should she go North and coal at the Bay of Islands, that circumstance may be taken as an indication that the New Hebrides, and probably gome of the islands of the Samoan group, are to be annexed by New Zealand. Hon. Mr Buckley may as well leave his A.C. force behind, as he would hardly be able to " form square " with them.
