London, December lSr—The statement made by tne " Pall Mall Gazette " yeslorday as to the projected cession of Delagoa Bay to Germany is authoritatively denied. London, 18th December. — Mr Sims Reeves, the celebrated tenor, has decided to visit Australia. The Oriental Bonk Corporation will make the on European shareholders payable as follows: — CIO in February, live pounds in April and July, ISSS, anr live in January, ISSG. Shareholders abroad will require to pay a call of t\\ enty pounds in July, ISSS, and one of live pounds in January. ISSO. Earl Movley is mentioned as a probablo successor to Lord Augustus Loftus, as Governor of New South Wales. London, Dec. IS. — Arrived : Steamship Elderslio, from Port Chalmers (Oct. 17), with a cargo of frozen mutton, which is believed to be in good condition, The Coui't of Common Council has voted a reward of t'3,000 for information leading to the conviction of the perpetrators of the recent outrage at London Bridge. Dr. Wordsworth, Bishop of Lincoln, has resigned his sec, owing to ill-health. The authorities at Dover have seized two hundredweight of dynamite, which arrived there yesterday on board a vessel from the Continent. A despatch has been received from Lord Wolseley stating that the boats which have been used for the transport of tho British expedition up the Nile havo fulfilled all expectations. The troops aro in excellent health, and tit for any trial of strength with which they may meet. The woik of bring ing the boats np the river proved very hard, but was borne cheerfully. Both oflicers and men aze in excellent spirits, and all thoughts are now bent upon tho approaching march to Klvirtoum, and tho relief of the city and of General Gordon. Lox' ox, December 19. — Tho Right Hon. and Most Rev. Plunkett, Bishop of Meath, has been appointed to the Archbishopric of Dublin, vacant by the resignation of Dr. Trench. London, December 20. — A Now Zealand two and a-half million 4 per cent, loan will probably be placed in the market on January 11th. The reported annexation of the northern portion of New Guinea by Germany is unconfirmed. The frozen meat by the steamer Doric is realising s\d per lb. London, December 22.-— A fire occurred in the parcels ofh'ce at Windsor last night, and aiter being extinguished an infernal machine was discovered among the debris. On examining the machine, it was found that the fuse attached, instead of causing an explosion, had ignited the box in which it was contained, and thus set lire to the ofhee. The " Standard "' states that Germany has notified to the Powers that she has annexed the folio/, ing islands in the Pacific : New Britain, New Ireland, New Hanover, Marshall, Enderboy, Duke of York, Admiralty, anH also the northern portion of New Guinea. Dr. Flinsch will probably act as administrator over the above. Paris, December IS. — An official telegram from Tonquin, published to-day, announces that the French pi >sition at a \illage near Chu was recently attacked by three thousand Chine-e, who, after severe fighting, were repulsed with heavy loss. The French forces suffered but slightly. Paris, December IS. — Cholera has again appeared in this city. Berlin, December 20. — A reply to the claims made by the German and Russian Governments to bo represented on the Egyptian Caisse de la Debt Publique has been leceived. The Egyptian Government states in effect that it is willing to recogni-e the claims, provided all the signatory Powers in whose favour tne Law of Liquidation was passed shall agree to sanction the necessary modification in the constitution of the Caisse. The reply has caused considerable displeasure to the German and Russian Governments, and also to the Austrian Court. Bombay, December IS. — The Marquis of Ripon arrived here to-day, en rovte to England, and was accorded a splendid farewell reception, and numerous addresses were presented. Cave Town, December 21. — Intelligence has been received here that a force of armed Boers who had assembled in the Transvaal is starting for the border. President Kruger has declared he is powerless to prevent their departure. New York, December 20. A disastrous fire occurred laot night at the Catholic Orphanage, Brooklyn. The bodies of twenty-one children who were burnt have been discovered, but ninety others axe still missing. Ni:w York, December 21. — Seventy of the ninety children who were reported missing after the fire at the Brooklyn Orphanage have bsen found safe and uninjured, but nothing is yet known regarding the fate of the remainder.
