Saturdat last was the da^ set apart for the second annual meuiing. Heavy rain fell during the early morning, but ceased about 6 o'clock, and the day kept fine until about 5 o'clock, when a heavy shower came on, but did not last long. There was a very good attendance, and •everybody seemed to enjoy themselves. A totalisator was on .the ground, but, •owing to some misunderstanding was not allowed to be worked, the Club thereby losing something considerable. There were booths where the hungry and thirsty «ouk refiesh themselves, and that kind gentleman with his cheery cry of " Pop It down, gents, dou. Ls I pays double, a child can play as well as man, pop it down," was us usual well to the fore. At the first hurdle C:itch'em thiew hi^ rider, an-! went off for a muter by himself. Resurrection went round the course quietly for the stakes. Catch Vm was caught affcer Borne little trouble, re-mounted, and sent round for second money. Maiden Plate, lOsovs., 1 mile. MrLumden's Resurrection(M «ckenzie)l Mr Fonton's Catch em (O'Connor) 2 Mr O'Brien's Black Bess (Hotcbin) 3 Stanley, No. 1, Tamaki, and Eed Rose also ran. There was nothing in it but Resurrection aid Cafch'em, these made I a very good race of it until 100 yards from home, Wien th<i latter died away and .Resurrection won by three lengths. Black Bess a long way in the rear, anl the rest nowhere. Te Aroha Handicap, 25hovr., \\ miles. Mr Lumsden'a Snake (Mackenzie) 1 Mr Caruachan's Prospero (NVgrove) 2 Mr Quinns Navigator ... ... 3 Colonist also started This was rather an unfortunate race. First the start — owing to Navigator and Colonist not being disposed to qo — was not one of the happiest, Snake an I Prospeio yett'n^ a good bit in front of them ; ihjn Coionist threw his rider and bolted. In 1 the meantime, Snake and Prospero were funning round the course, but there was not much in it as Snake when be got hi* head, came away and won easily from Prospero, who beat Navigator by six lengths for second place. Minkrs' Purse, 7sovs., 1 mile. Mr Quinns Navigator . ... 1 Mr Montague's Black Bess ... 2 Colonist «md No. 1 also started, at the back ol the course, however, the paii took it into their heads to make for the township, and were fairly on their way before they were pulled up. Navigator won easily by ten lengths from Black Bess. Selling R*ce, lOsovs,, 1 mile. Winner to be sold for' lOsova., any surplus to go Race Fund. Four horses started for this event, Mr Quinns Navigator winning easily from Te Namu, who was second, the test nowhere. The winner" was bought in \y the owner for £15 10s.
