THE OLD YEAR.

The flow old year is dying -O! lot him die in ponce. Friend und toe come round him, let hate and malice cease ; And never let Jiirri carry a record to the Throne Of the anger, und the envy, and the evil 3 we have strovvn. Shall lie whisper to the acgels of trials and of care We thought were sent in anger, and more than we could bear ? Or say we have been cowards in the darkness of the night^Or conquerors in the battle— the victors in the iight? Shall he bear a gentle message of kindly thought or deed Wt>'\ c shown .some erring brother, or poor one in his need? Or tell of aii'-try feeling, and bitterness of he-nt, That keeps the ungol from our side, and heaven so far apart .' The dear old year is dying— o! let him die in peace, Let bitterness of fooling and iuito and malice cease, For noble hearts are cA r er the hearts which love the best — Forgiving hearts the victors which conquer all the rest. For as the .shadows deepen, and the end It diawing near. There comes a bright evangel— the new and tUadboinc year; Let him find \i* little children— v ho own our Father's call, That lie may guide and lead us, as He loveth one and all.
