The box is an oval one, rather more than three inches in length, and on the cover is a silver medallion, bearing an inscription, the legible portion of which is, "Sir Walter Raleigh, from his good friend, but simple squire j" but the remaining words cannot be deciphered. The inscription surmounts a representation in high relief of Sir Walter Raleigh smoking his pipe, and an attendant throwing a bucket of water over him because he thought his master was on fire. Tto box was purchased for a few shillings, and is now in possession of one of the Alderman of Exeter.
