TAUPO NATIVE LAND COURT. Taupo, December 15.
The Native Land Court opened here on Tuesday last, and closed yesterday morning. The natives express satisfaction with the Court's proceedings, which partook more of the nature of a Court ot Record, confirming arrangements arrived at amongst the tribes concerned. The lands dealt with are chiefly the Runanga and Tauhara, comprising a total area of 200,000 acres, and which, through defects of title, have been " hung up " for the last 15 years, preventing all progress and improvements in this part of the country.

An intellectual feast — Entertaining an idea. M. de Harven visited the Cattle Show at Invercargill on Friday. The tea-kettle is the only singer that never suffers from cold. A Genius— One who can do anything but make a living. There have been violent eruptions on White Island, Tauranga, since March last, but they are now abating. Probably one of the most trying times in a man's life is when he introduces his second wife, 17 years old, to his eldest daughter, who is past twenty. Mr Samuel Vaile probably starts soon on a lecturing tour in the South Island. What next? An inventive genius has applied the electric light to the destruction of bugs. Hint to colonial visitors— The first clay a guest, the second a burden, the third a nuisance. The Government are said to have prohibited Civil Servants to take an active part in trading companies. What about Cabinet Ministers ? Dunedin's extremity is Auckland's opportunity. Dunedin Harbour Board have deoided that they can't afford to remit harbour dues on the direct steamers. Injustice to England, for a change, is something to refresh the Hibernian soul. It has been discovered that all the recent additions to the roll of J.P.s in Wellington are either Irish or Scotch, there being no& t» single TSnglfohmftn jifrtfte; liati
