NEW SETTLEMENT SCHEME OF THE GOVERNMENT.
The new regulati ms regarding small farm settlements, as set forth iv 1. »fc Government Gazette to hand, are to tne 101 lowing effect :—: — Any association of persons of not less than twenty five who may be desirous of settling on Crown Lands adjacent to each other may arrange with the Government for a block of land on certain conditions. Any block of land to be selected under the regulations sl'all contain not less than 1000 acres nor more than 10,000 acres, and it will be surveyed into areas of not more t.ian 100 acres, there-abonts. Such portions of the land as may be required for the purpose of the governuent of the colony, or for educational, recreation, or other publicr purposes, and as shall be approved by the Minister, will not be opened .or selection. The price of the land shall be such as may be arranged between the Ministers and the association, payable as follows : One- tenth of the price of the whole block shall be paid by t'te secretary piior to the allotment of sections. Tois will lw in satisfaction of two first half-yoarly instalments, to be r ckonetl as duo from next Ist day of January or July following. Thereafter the payments shall be made by each purchaser every six months in advance, at the rate of one- twentieth of the. price of the land, until the whole price has been paid. One- third of the price of thel.md will from time to time, as paid to Government, be repaid to the local body of the district or association for expenditure on roads in or leading to the block. The purchaser shall he entitled a" down grant of the land by him upon proof to the satisfaction of the Minister that he has l&een continuously in residential occurptitiou of the land selected by him, either personally or by a registered subI stitute, for a period of six years, and has fulnled all conditions. A purchaser shall, i within twj years from the date of his purchase, bring into cultivation not less than one-tenth of the land purchased by him.
