SHOCKING RAILWAY ACCIDENT.

Wellington, December 8. Mr H. Welsh, a farmer of Opaki, met with a serious accident at Featherston on Saturday. As the train was leaving he attempted to pass from one carriage platform to another, when he fell, and the train passed over him. Very little hopes are entertained of his recovery. Latek. Welsh, who was run over by the train, is dead.

Counties North of Auckland have been allocated money for construction of roads, etc., in the following proportions, the total being £70,000 : — Waitemata, £12,000 ; Rodney, £11,000 ; Hobson, £9,000 ; Whangarei, £12,000 ; Bay of Islands, £10,000 ; Hokianga, £7,000 ; Mongonui, £9,000. .
