ARRIVAL OF THE KAIKOURA. Another "Fastest Passage." Accident to Her Machinery.
Hobart, December 8, Arrived, on Saturday evening : New Zealand Shipping Company's steamship Kaikoura, from Plymouth. She sailed for New Zealand yesterday morning. A telegram from Christchurch says that the Kaikoura made the fastest passage on record, viz., 36 days 18 hours steaming from Plymouth. In latitude 45 South, longitude 86 East, a slight midshap occurred to her machinery, otherwise the passage would have been accomplished in considerably less time. The Kaikoura is due at Port Chalmers on Wednesday, and will be despatched from the colony punctually on 28, with the first of Her Majesty's mails under the contract jmt completed.
