(to the editor.) Sir, — I see that my letter re Mr Gapes's mis-statement has had the effeot I dosirett, vi2s, exonerate the Te Arolia Banl. He now attempts to shuffle the promise on to my shoulders. The man who degrades himself by using such language as he doe*, on the testimony oF a third party, making no allowance for his messenger misrepresenting or misunderstanding the reply sent, I consider quite beneath my notice, and only worthy of silent contempt. I shall therefore content myself with stating that when his messenger (Mr Neal) came tr> me 1 sent him direct to Mr Ash by, the •*oeretary. I have sent no message whatever verbally or otherwise to Me Gipes.
