Battrry. — The ivuuurf of amalgam and of gold for the week ending Saturday, 22nd inst , were as follows :—: — New Find— 7s trucks, 60oz. ; taili-igs, 270z. ; 24 trucks (tri-il pm-el), 3oz. KJdwtß. Total, 80oz. 16d\vt. gold. (Joloni^t — 53 trucks 85uz. am.ilfifam. Diamond Gully — 15 trucks, 450z. amalgam. Canadian — 6 trucks, 2oz gold. The DUmon I Gully crushing has been continued this week, ami from 29 trucks, the tot tl quantity crnslie I up till Thursday, 1 Odoz 9dwfs amalgam was obtained. Nkw^ Find. —Nothing lias occurred during 'the week deserving of special mention; The various workings look much as usual, and the output of payable stone conu>s up to the average. It may perhaps, he worthy of remark that the coarsest gold yet found in the mine has been got recently in the bottom of the Arizona winze, a circumstance which does not favour ihe belief entertained by some persons that the precious metal here becomes finer and poorer in quality in proportion to the depth at which it is obtained. - ! CoLoNisT.-— A marked change for the better has taken place during the week in the prospects of this mine, and a lengthened period of profitable work may now with confidence be looked forward to. This cheering state of things lias been brought about by the opening up in the low level of the main branch of the lode, that is being followed down in the winze front the No. 2 level. In sink-ng there the reel in the south e*id was found to split into two brandies an-l on the most, westerly of these dr ving had for some distance been carried on in the low level. A short cross-cut %vas recently ]-ut in to intersect the other portion of the r.-uF, which win found at a distance f.f eight feet, and on being cu fc jj n t 0 it prowl to bo both larger and richer than toe one previously worked on. There can be no doubt that it is the m tin bo ly of the reef, although at the point where the split occurred tin west branch appe.ired the more promising of the two. Che finding of this large body of payable stone in tiie low level has restored" confidence in the permanence of the .nine, the prospects of which are certainly much brighten now than they have been for a length of ti ii" past. Diamond (jully, Waiorongomai, & May Queen.— ln o^c'i of these mines the worus are being pus ied steadily forward, and matters continue to wear u no leas satisfactory appearance than they have, done, heretofore. The erection of the hopper an 1 shoot for the Waiorongomai Company is now being proceed e 1 with, .aid crushing will be commenced as soon as they are completed, Inverness — A tine looking lode was struck on Tnursday in the low level. There has not yet be»n sufficient work done upon it to test its value, but the appearance of the stone is exceedingly promising, mid much resemble* that found in the best gold-bearing parts of t.ie reef in the upper workings. Phcgnix. — The low level is now in over 150 ft. At 147 ft a vein was struck supposed to be the most easterly of the two worked upon in the upper level. The quartz is of a very kindly description, and carries abundance of the same minerals met with above. The drive is si ill being pushed ahead to pick up the other and richer lode, which will likely be found within 10 or 12 feet. Success. — This claim was formerly named the Hit or Miss, and is situated on the spar above the old Morning Star ground. It is being worked by Mr J, Lawrence and Party, who recently sent a five ton parcel to the Thames for treatment, and an encuratriny yield was obtained. A -20 tfii lot is now bein ;• taken out, and will shortly be crushed at the Waiorongomai battery.
