A Mount Eden quarryman, writing about the dynamite blasting in that region, breake forth into bong thus :— "The neighbours shriek and do complain When there is nought to fear, But. ere long, they all may learn To be not so severe. The hammer rests, its master's hand Grips a more potent power— The wedge to split the stubborn rocks Becomes mightier every hour." Let us hope that the wedge will become mightier than dynamite, and will by-and-by push the explosive out of use; for, despite the poetic dictum, there is something to fear from flying rocks among wooden houses.
