Employment for Lords.

An ingenious French nobleman, out at elbows, has discovered a new opening for mpecunious members of his class. It is to " recognise " children who are inscribed at mayoralties as being those of unknown fathers. The code allows one boy or girl so recognised to bear the name of the recognising party, however illustrious it may be. The nobleman in question is a marquis, and is making a good income out of the use to which he turns his patronymic. A few years ago, at the request of a prince from the Lower Danubian State, he gave his name to a little boy living in a sort of pavilion which his Highness had built for an ex-member of the corps de ballet. This put it into the marquis's head to strike out into the b.usiness he now follows. He recently remarked to an old friend, whom he met in Paris : "-The businsss I have created for myself is an excellent one. I only recognise for a good round sum, and I see that a further sum is placed in the hands of a notary for the exclusive benefit of the recognisee. If, therefore, the mother should be reduced to poverty, the child can be decently schooled and set up in a trade or profession. I have thus no responsibility of any kind, no marital cares, and enjoy thorough, ihdependance, while awaiting an opportunity to sell my coronet to some .parvenu heiress."
