OPENING OF MORRINSVILLE RAILWAY.

Hamilton, October^. The railway to Morrinsville (17 miles) was opened for traffic this morning. The train came through from Auckland yesterday, and was joined by a number of gentlemen here,and proceeded through to Morrinsville. A number of settlers were assembled on the platform, and as the train drew up alongside raised a cheer. The contractors gave a dinner at Buck's Phoenix Hotel, which was by several officers in connection with the Railway Department, when the usual toasts were disposed of. The fiivt train left Morrinsville this morning, and was largely patronised. The engine was decorated, and considerable gaiety was assumed. The day for opening the Cambridge branch is not yet fixed. Mr Hales (District Engineer) and Mr Becre (Resident Engineer) went over the line this morning, and passed it as ready for traffic.
