("Age" Specials.) The Expedition to Khartoum.
London, September 17. — Lord Wolseley has ordered among other reinforcements for the relief expedition to Khartoum 1,100 camels. The^e will be procured at Aden, and are to be mounted by British cavalry. It is rumoured that Lord Wolseley has determined to dispense with the proposed boat expedition and. abandon the Nile routo. Instead, he will, it is reported, proceed by the Nile Valley and dash across the desert from Korosko to Khartoum, a distance of 1,250 miles. September 18. The Agents-General of the Australian colonies are pressing upon the Imperial Government the necessity for amending the Pacific Pi'otection Act so as to extend its provision to fox'eign New Guinea.
Postal Matters. Mr Fawcott has been waited upon and urged to restore the special address restrictions wkich he recently abolished on letters by mail steamer for Australian colonies. He, however, refused tointeifere with the new arrangement.
Oriental Bank. All the uncalled capital of the Oriental Bank now in liquidation will be required to pay a dividend on the 16th. It is expected that the call will realise £1,250,000. A first dividend of 10s is expected to be paid in J anuary next.
