A Curious Will.
A will is now under litigation in the Paris Courts, the heirs pleading that the testator was of unsound mind. It runs as follows : — "I possess a fortune of 70,000f. How many tears, lies, and acts of treachery could I have purchased with such a sum ? I first of all thought of bequeathing these 70,000f. to the Assistance Publique; but said to myself, ' What for ?' The real benefactors of humanity are war and the cholera. Besides, I have a debt of gratitude to pay my dear wife, Celestine Me'lanie, who lives Heaven knows where. . . . . She did me the greatest service I could have expected from her, that of leaving me one fine morning and never turning up again. Out of remembrance for that good action I appoint her my universal legatee. However, 1 attach a special clause to the legacy, and that is, that she gets married again directly the legal period has expired. In this manner I am sure my death will be regretted by at least one man." . . . . Immediately after his signature, "Dr Vincent L ," comes the postscript, "Who cannot reproach himself with ever having saved the life of a single patient."
An association offers prizes of £700 and £300 for the two best non-alcoholicbeverages. Competitors must submit a sample of not less than three gallons of their article, with a statement of its ingredients, and the cost must not exceed £3 per 100 gallons of English measure,
