House of Representatives. Wellington, September 17.

The House met yesterday at 2.30 p.m. Amongst the replies by Ministers to questions were a promise to Mr Locke that the sections at Motu, between Opotiki and Giaborne, which had been surveyed, would be opened for selection under the Homestead Act immediately ; and statements (1) To Mr Joyce, that the accumulated fines on railway employes amounted to £707, the disposal of which Government would take into consideration. (?) To Mr Johnston, that the interest on inscribed stock payable half-yearly, being paid into the bank here one month before, the diminution attributable to inscription of stock this year i 3 £50,000. (3) To Mr O'Callaghan, that while Government are not prepared to insist on the compulsory re-vaccination of adults in the population, they arc prepared to afford evory facility for such. (4) To Mr O'Callaghan, that steps would be taken to revise the scale of fees under the Licensing Act, and the revised tariff would probably be gazetted next week.

New Bills. The following bills were given notice of : — A Bill to Amend the Medical Practitioners Act (Sir George Grey), a Bill to Amend the Gaming and Lotteries Act (Mr Hobbs), Tauranga School Site (Capt. Moiris).

Other Measures. ' Six bills of which notice had been previously given were read a first time. Sir George Grey's bill to provide facilities for the enforcement of judgments recovered in courts of inferior jurisdiction was dropped, provision having been already made to carry out its intentions. The Foreign Companies Bill was passed through committee and reported with amendments. The Local Courts and lleligioue and Charitable Aids Bills passed the second reading. The House adjourned at a quarter to five till 7.30. At the evening sitting the galleries were crowded.
