The stuff broken down y 'sterd «y was tie best that has yet, been fouu I in any part of the mine, and the show in the face is still very g<>o I.J (Janauivn. — Tiie lo le Mipposed to lie William ■■,'-. in the low level has been further opened up, but without any st trtini»- result. Fair cms linij dirt is hoiu# #ot in the surface block f:om the i.-ir^er vein near its junction wit.) the Hero reef, and fro n that part of the mine a considerable amount of pav.ible stulT is likely to be obtained. There has been a marked improvement during- the week in the stuff put tnrough at the battery. Diamond Gullry. — Grool geneial stuff i.i still being- got in stoping 1 . There is a large lot of stone st.icke 1 in the mine ready to be sent to the battery, but it will be some weeks yet befor tne contractor has the shoot and hopper completed. Phemier. — The winze that was started on the No. 2 reef in the old level durin» the wet weather is still being 1 carried on. The reef looks w?ll, and, about two feet of it on the hanging wall side, shows a fair sprinkling of gold. It has now been sunk on to a depth of eight feet, and should the same show continue downwar 1 a gO"d size 1 blocc of pay ible ground is likely to be opened up. (Surface operations are suspended until this block receives a fairf.rial. Wkllimgto.v. — The quartz on hand is about to be sent to tiie battery, and will probably be crushed early next week. The return is expected to be payable. Waioiioxgomai. — Operations are being continue! m that part of the mine from which most of the stuff in the recent crushsng was obtained. From the 30 tons treated the yield was 53ozft, 13 Iwts 12grs, or aboul l£ ounces per ton, a vei'v sutisf ictory return. It is al-»> in conteuplatioii to start a low level in conjunction with the Vermont Co. to open up the ground neai t uit Company's boundary, where payable gol 1 is believ • 1 exi-t. This work is likely to be cmume.ice 1 \ery and is of niu'-i importance, as it will largely affe t tiie future of both companies. Vekmont — Tiie tunnel partly drhen som 'time since to cut the Welcome reef below the upper horse track, is again being canied on, but, it will have to be exten io>i some distance yet before tiie lode is reached. Notninir is being done at present, on the vein from which tiie late paynb co as.iing was got, as it cannot >ie worked to advantage until the low level, which it is proposed to put in witn the Waiorongomai Co is completed, .in i give-s tiie. reipinvd lacdities. Inverness. — Gold, which was lost sight of for a short distance in driving the upper level, is again showing, and during the week splendid loose prospects iiave been obtained as well as a fair show in tiie stone. bVom the lea ling stope some of the best .slull' got in the mine for sometime past has been taken nitiiin the last lew Mays, an I tiie look of things in the. other slopes is also r iti^factory. Negotiations for the battery are still pending and are likely shortly to be successfully complete I. A machine site and water sight have bee.n applie I for, and, belore many months have elapsed, we hope to see the Company crushing with their own plant. Mvy Qukion. — The winze near the Lucky Hit boundary is now down' 18 or 20 feet and good payable stone is still being found. A slide was met with some days ago, which, was feared, would cut off the gold, but this has not proved to be the case as the stuff that has b.-en ,got out since the break in the reef was passed through is quite equal to anything that was found above. In the tramway level there is stilt a fine look : ng reef and at times n fair show of iold until some more work is done no fai r esti nate can be formed rpspcct-.ini? the quality of the lo.le in that part of the claim. Lucky Hit. — Since the winze was holed through to the intermediate level last, week, a commencement has been made to get out a quantity of stuff from the upper block fora trial clashing. Tne leader is at present rather small but shows a little gold, though as yet it is chiefly in the honey- co n bed pirfc of the stone. As goon as 8 or 10 tons have been got out it will be forwarded lo the battery for treatment. PircENix. — This Company has commenced a low level which will open up thereof to a depth of more than 100 feet below the upp»r workings.
