Tur. joint meeting yesterday afternoon of the Stout-Vogel and CUey parties, convened by Mi- J. C. Brown, practically came to nothing. Over lilt) invitations were issued, but only s,o\unteen re&ponded, namely, Mesc-is Dargaville, Thompson, Cadman(lhe only tlnee Auckl.ind men), Smith, Kosx, Steward, White (As-hbuiton), Ross, Turnlmll, M< Ken/ie (Moeiaki), O'Connor, O'Callaghan, Brad&haw, Ban on, -i. C Brown, Seddon, Joyce, and Koo^e. At fn«.t a pioposal was made that the meeting, being so thin, .should not tender any advice, but this wa* finally overruled. Vaiious members suggested diflcrent iiamc^ as Ministers, but nothing was done with respect to them. Finally a motion was dratted by Mr Seddon, but gi\en iulo Mr Smith's hands, to the eiicct that w bile not wishing to hamper Sir George 'iiey, the meeting Mould hiigge^t that he should support a stout-Vogel combination. Mr Thompson (City Koith) and other mem6ei.- taid that tliough they had no objection to this being earned, they would considei themselves in no way bound by it, but would purMiew hate\creouise they eonsiJeiedbe-t. The lesolution was then put in an ntegular way, and theio no division, but the general undeistanding that all membtis pif"-ent weie perfectly iiee to do a- they pleaded, and the motion really meant nothing at all. This ib the way that it has been accepted by Sir George they. The icsolution simply amounts to an expression of the views ofMr.J. C. Brown and other Southern Vogclites 1 who were piesent.
