Melbourne, August 10.— M. Poppcns, the absconding hotolkeepcr from AVollington, was brought up at the Police Court yesterday and remanded until Thursday next, bail being allowed in £200. Melbourne, August 19.— Poppens, the absconding hotclUecpcr from Wellington, who was released on bail last Friday, has been re-arrested at the instance of his surety, who suspected that Poppens intended to mako his escape. Meleournj;, August li). — Tho steamship Hassia, for the safety of which fears \\ ere entertained, has arrived here. Sydney, August lo. — In tho Legislative Council on Wednesday night, tho Jlon. W. B. Dalley, Attorney-Cicneral, moved the second reading of the Land Bill. The debate fc fixed for Tuesday next. Sydney, Aug. 20. — Tho proposals to bo submitted by the Government for the extension of tho railway system of the colony include tho construction of GOO miles of new lines and a plan for light railways over level plains. Houart, August 16.— The lion. W. K. Giblin, the Piemier, has resigned ofiice on account of ill-health, and efforts are now being made to reconstruct the Ministiy. IJobart, August 10. — The reconstruction of the Tasmanian Ministry has been rendered necessary by the resignation of the Hon. W. R. Giblin. This has been effected by Mr Douglas, and the portiolios have been alloted as follows : — Premier and Colonial Secretary, Mr Douglas ; Colonial Treasurer, Mr "Burgess ; Attorney-General, Mr Do ids ; Minister for Lands and Works, Mr Brown.
